Mothers Day at Green Moustache

Mother’s Day falls around the perfect time for a walk here in Sydney, the temperature has dropped and the trees are glowing a gorgeous orangey red. Below you’ll find three stunning walks close to Green Moustache to combine with your long lunch and enjoy the perfect Mothers Day

1) Berry Island Reserve

The Gadyan Bush Track around Berry Island is a short but beautiful bush walk around a 30 minute walk from Green Moustache.

The track is an easy 750m loop walk that takes about 20 minutes to complete. Dotted along the way are signs highlighting the Aboriginal significance of the area and explaining the way the land was used by the original inhabitants. It may be a short walk but it’s packed to the rafters with views.

2) Kirribilli

The Mary Booth Lookout Reserve to Blues Point Reserve is a hidden gem of a walk around Sydney, with some incredible multi million dollar views of the bridge, the opera house and the harbour. From Blues Point Reserve it’s a 15 walk up to us at Green Moustache.

The walk starts at the steps at Mary Booth Reserve, head down them and there’s a boardwalk which will take you right over to Kirribilli. You’ll walk under the Harbour Bridge, continue on to Lavender Bay and stumble across Wendy Whitely's Secret Garden which is a walk in and of itself (and our final walk to recommend). Once you’ve finished at Wendy’s Secret Garden, continue on to McMahon’s Point then make your way over to Blues Point Reserve where you’ll find some of Sydney’s best views.

3) Wendy Whitely’s Secret Garden

This ‘secret’ garden is just a ten minute walk from Green Moustache. It was created by Wendy Whitely, wife of famous, late artist Brett Whitely and is located in Lavender Bay. After the passing of her husband Wendy started filling up her time with clearing up the piles of overgrown rubbish on the large land filled valley of unused railway land at the foot of her house. With no knowledge of horticulture when she started, she designed the garden based on aesthetics, colour, form, beauty and whimsy and over the years has learnt what likes growing there and what doesn’t. It’s become a truly beautiful and unique garden full of nooks and crannies where a panoply of shrubs – both natives and exotics, herbs and towering trees run along winding gully paths, all attracting an odd collection of birdlife – colourful parrots, noisy gulls, watchful kookaburras and cheeky wagtails.
